Attempt at World's Longest Cuban Sandwich

The record for the biggest Cuban Sandwich was set in December 2011 by Miami when sandwichers in that city made a 30-foot Cuban Sandwich. On Saturday, August 18th, Tampa restaurants will beat that record by making a 36-foot long Cuban Sandwich. The sandwich will then donated to a local organization to feed the homeless.

The attempt at the record will be a highlight of a festival honoring the Cuban Sandwich with tastings from favorite restaurants, including the winners of the annual Cuban Sandwich Festival Contest. Twenty restaurants will be present with their specialties.

The festival will include live music and dance performances, a Kidz ZONE, an antique car show, a cigar area, an old-fashioned barber and a domino tournament.

Tampa City Councilwoman Yvonne (Yolie) Capin will present a resolution naming the historical Cuban Sandwich as the official sandwich of Tampa, and the recognizing the Cuban Sandwich Festival winners on stage. The winners are:

Food fest featuring traditional Tampa cuisine, including an attempt to create the world's longest Cuban Sandwich, besting Miami's 30-foot long record set in December 2011, winners of the Cuban Sandwich Festival held in Ybor in May, and Cuban sandwiches from numerous local restaurants; plus roast pork, deviled crabs, empanadas, flan.
